In Chicago, Lindsey and I lunched at an organic, vegetarian cafe called Handlebar where we drank Hibiscus & Mint iced tea and ate fresh salads – I had the “Everything Green” (below) with extra tofu. The night before we had indulged in ‘bacon fat popcorn’ and ‘pulled pork pizza’ at Revolution so we were glad to have a lighter meal…
We felt virtuous after our very green meals …. then we saw the peanut butter and jelly fried pies on the specials menu. —–>
We asked our waiter about them and his whole face lit up, ‘Oh my goodness…. Those are DELECTABLE’. So much for our attempt to keep things light… !
Words can’t really describe our reaction when we took a bite… The deliciousness was beyond compare!!! Warmed peanut butter and strawberry jam, hot buttery shortcrust pastry and a sticky sugary glaze over the top…. I’ll never forget them 🙂
