Good luck lollies

I’ve seen rock candy shaped like kiwifruit, rock candy that says ‘I heart you‘ and rock candy that spells rude words, but these are the first ones I’ve seen that bring you luck. The sweets display the face of the Japanese god of good luck, fishermen and workers, Ebisu, and were a gift from my friends Kazu and Fujie, who picked them up at the Ebisu festival in Osaka. (The fashion label Evisu and the beer Yebisu were named after him.)

I love how all the faces are a little bit different.

Below are some pics from the Ebisu matsuri, which brings good luck to small businesses. Business owners buy charms of Ebisu to hang in their shops to bring luck (or they could just eat the lollies). Thanks to Ben for the excellent festival pics.

Those candies look really cute, but it’s good luck to eat them? To me it seems like they shouldn’t be eaten haha!

That festival looks really interesting, and crowded like most festivals are haha^^
