Afternoon tea

Japanese sweets called wagashi are traditionally served in tea ceremonies. They’re usually made of rice flour and red bean and are always so kirei (pretty). If you go to a store that makes these sweets, women in kimono will bring you a small cup of macha (powdered Japanese green tea) to drink while you are tasting the different varieties. The pink one is a cherry-blossom shaped wafer encasing cherry-blossom jelly, and the white one has red bean jelly inside.
